James Bond 007: Nightfire
Goldeneye 007-Reimagining a classic
Speaking of James Bond is to do one of the most emblematic icons of the twentieth century, whose legacy is expanded in the new millennium with such a firm step that seems to become an intrinsic part of human culture. Although DNA and genetic inheritance are essentially those of a British secret service agent, you can identify with 007 in any country in the world, thanks to over his adventures covering all sorts of topics, staging, women , action, drama … There, as usual, critics of the Bond agent, but it is impossible to deny its importance and relevance in the global culture of the past sixty years. And is that since the writer Ian Fleming created the secret agent, have been numerous works that have worn the name of James Bond on the cover.
The author published twelve novels and several short stories between 50 and 60, but the witness would be picked up various authors who would continue his literary legacy alive until today. However, where it has become more famous, no doubt, 007 is in the film world, with 22 films (regardless of the insights and nuances particular) have been successful in its release all of them. And of course the usual series of different kinds of television, radio, movies unofficial parodies, and, of course, videogames. Strange as it may seem, comparatively are not many titles that have come featuring James Bond: about the score during the last thirty years.
If we take this figure adaptations of the series playable James Bond Jr, racing games or the original text adventures, the number of production falls dramatically. In fact, although the character has existed since 1953, a playable level productions did not follow a steady pace and quality until 1997 when it was born the famous Goldeneye for Nintendo 64. In fact, this title is one of the few works based directly on a movie (of some significance, for the 80 left several deliveries easily forgettable), along with Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Quantum of Solace From Russia with Love (game that came, oddly, 40 years after the film.) However, unless the outstanding first case, almost all these titles tended to fall into the topic of movie-based game that is, good intentions than results.
Perhaps because of this, Activision’s bid seems too risky. Delving into the realm of nostalgia to create a review of one of the very few film adaptations playable high quality can be a double-edged sword, especially since this nostalgia to which appeals could end up proving to be the worst enemy. Rare’s GoldenEye for Nintendo 64 became its own merits, in a timeless essential for all lovers of video games. There are many users who wanted a remake of that work, but the battle between Microsoft and Nintendo was never resolved and it seems that this review was stored in a drawer at the Rare offices. Amid the dispute, arrived unexpectedly and Activision announced the game that many eager, exclusively for Wii (and a DS version).
The studio responsible, Eurocom, a team with more than two decades of experience in the sector, with some lapses (Predator: Concrete Jungle), but in general, very good work (Dead Space: Extraction). Interestingly, it is not the first time working with the Bond franchise, and that its curriculum we can find things like James Bond Jr., The World Is Not Enough, Nightfire, or the PS2 version of Quantum of Solace. So, backed by extensive experience and success in the video game market and in the license, which Eurocom facing possibly its greatest challenge was up to date: to recover a classic, adapted to modern times and meet fans.
