Lexmark X6650 Review

The Lexmark X6650 is an inexpensive all-in-one printer that can be connected to a wireless network which contains a card reader.

The X6650 does not take up a lot of room with or without the paper trays open. The design is quite tasteful in silver and black and is easily cleaned. 100 sheets of paper can be placed in the rear-loading tray and the output tray will take 25 sheets.

Withe the inbuilt card reader on the X6650 you will have no problems using lots of memory cards that include SD Memory Card, SDHC, Micro SD, MultiMedia Card (v4.1), MultiMediaCard Plus (v4.1), RS-MMC, Compact Flash Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro Duo, xD-Picture Card, xD-Picture Card (Type M) and xD-Picture Card (Type H). If you have the correct adaptor it will also work with mini memory cards. A PictBridge port is also a feature of the X6650.

The X6650 can be set up with ease in a short space of time. Both ink cartridges are located beneath the scanner/copier and the mains lead connects at the back left. Installing the software for the X6650 on your computer is just as straight forward.

Lexmark X6650 ink cartridges are available in two capacities. The no. 36 black should do up to 175 pages and the no. 37 colour 150 pages. You will get better value for money with the 36XL which will do an estimated 475 pages and 37XL, 500 pages. There is also a separate photo cartridge (no. 31) for printing high quality photos on the X6650.

The X6650 is simple to use and has clearly laid out buttons for the various functions.

The X6650 took 22 seconds to print a standard quality test page of text with a colour logo. Printed text quality was alright and apart from some noticeable banding in dark areas graphics were also acceptable.

Photos printed on the X6650 were quite decent on a number of different papers although the quality from a dedicated photo printer was noticeably better.

Unfortunately the X6650 proved to be a disappointing copier with faint, washed-out text and pale, heavily banded colours.

Overall, the Lexmarkk X6650 is a reasonably low-priced and full-featured machine. For the money it isn’t a bad buy but if you are willing to spend a bit more you will get better value for money.

Lexmark ink cartridges can be found here.
